Seamus traveled by Floo to the Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade, delivering more of the extra supplies from The Leaky Cauldron on this trip, even though it was quite early in the morning and they would not be needed until much later in the day. He stowed the extra food away in the kitchen and the extra glasses behind the bar. Then he headed out to walk towards Hogwarts, his mind reeling with memories of the many times he had done this in his last year of schooling, and the weight of trepidation he felt at making the walk today.

He had not set foot here, where he’d fought or within the castle itself since the Dark Lords demise. The healer had warned him against such avoidance, saying it fueled his nightmares, keeping the place too fresh in his memory, too frozen in time. Now, at this first opportunity to enter the castle, it was finally time to begin to replace those memories with new ones.

He might have wished he was home in Kenmare, or even sleeping in his bed at The Leaky Cauldron, but like the true Gryffindor he was, he walked with purpose and vigor, his mind set with determination to improve his own lot.

When he arrived at the site of the battlefield where he’d fought hard and fallen, he paused but a moment for reflection. He’d seen this place too many times with explicit clarity in his night terrors to flinch at the look of it here in the sunlight. He stood, looked around, remembered, and set his jaw firm in the knowledge that he’d be seeing this place on such a regular basis that it might once again become the fond place of his youth. Then he made for the great oaken door without further hesitation. He was a man on a mission and his mission was clear.

It was 8:15 when he arrived. He’d purposely chosen to avoid the hourly tours. That was not his intent today, although he might decide to take one another time, perhaps with his friends. No, this visit inside was for one purpose only, to plan out his upcoming work at the library. He headed there immediately upon his entrance to the castle, and was grateful at this early hour that he did not see anyone else here.

Once in the library, he began his solitary review in the general sections, taking brief notes about any rearranging of the books in the sections for Charms and Spells. It was rather a large section, so he did take the time to at least note all the titles he’d not read. Many he had already studied as part of his schooling, but there were others, more historical tomes that he felt might be valuable in starting his research. He kept an eye out for anything that might particularly pertain to wands.

He spent his allotted time in this manner, nearly completing the overview of the general section, leaving only when it was time to return to the Hog’s Head to help with the Carnival customers looking for lunch and libation.

On the walk back he could only laugh at the notion that the Seamus Finnigan he’d been as a student here would hardly have gone to the library. In the distance he could see the new Quidditch stadium. Then, he’d have spent all of his time there. Now it was past time for games, he had serious work ahead.
