Ever since her conversation with Perry the week before, the idea of a new tattoo had settled on Pansy's mind. It had been several years, after all, since the impulsive etching of her name into her skin and she'd grown up and matured since then. It had never been a particularly subtle image but now Pansy felt as though she needed something else - something different, to better describe her character.

Not that it would necessarily be on public display.

Perry's reaction to her joke about getting a rose kept repeating whenever she thought about it. Oh yes, a rose would suit you. All full of thorns. So seemingly sweet and innocent until you get too close. It was a good assessment of her, and the more she thought about it, the more she liked it. She was harder than she had been, she knew; more thorny and more determined to hurt anyone who tried to hurt her.

Of course, the legend of a rose's beauty wasn't something she ignored either.

Examining the designs on the posters in the window, she dismissed one after another. Too gaudy; too big; too plain; too small. Her back was to the people passing through on their way to the darker side of Knockturn Alley, or emerging into the bright sunshine of the busier Diagon Alley. Nothing bad would happen here, so close to the wizarding high street. Not now.
