BACKGROUND:
Shin is the son Shoutaro Sawada, a U.S. Senator from California, and as such, was able to enjoy a rather normal childhood that came with all the privileges of coming from a rich family that had ties with many influential people. He went to private school from the very beginning, and was seen to be popular among his peers ever since grade school. He himself didn't really care about popularity and practically declined every single offer to go out to many a party that everyone had every weekend, yet the offers still continued to come. He only kept a close group of friends that he knew he could count on, and basically wrote off the rest of the students as people whom he had no interest in.
It stayed that way up until he reached middle school. One of the teachers, a rather uppity sort of person, claimed that something of his was stolen, saying that since it was done in the classroom, the only logical person to blame was one troublesome student who had previous run-ins with that same teacher. He made that student stand during the whole entire day without sitting, until he confessed that it was he that stole the teacher's object. The student kept on saying he was innocent. It wasn't until later that the perpetrator was found and dealt with by the school authorities, but the teacher wouldn't apologize to the student whom he actually blamed.
This made Shin feel angry enough to stand up to the teacher, and demanded that he formally apologize to the student. The teacher just scoffed at him and simply said, "Why should I apologize to him? He's nothing but trash, so there's nothing to apologize for." This is the exact moment when Shin decked the teacher, causing him to fall back onto his desk and get a concussion. The other students lauded Shin for standing up to the teacher, but the school authorities, and his father especially, saw differently.
It was shortly after this incident where Shin started to manifest his powers, which came out in a sudden uncontrollable burst, and then dissipated. He didn't exactly know what had happened, but he knew that this wasn't normal. His father had been doing some work for pro-mutant legislation, but he knew that his father wasn't one to overlook this and try to sweep it under the rug all for the sake of his self-image, so he decided to not tell him. He really tried his best to control his abilities in order to keep them in check, but that most certainly wasn't going to last. It only happened to come to his father's attention one year later when Shin was in a particularly bad mood due to the day's events, and served himself a cup of tea to try to relax. He had only taken a sip of it when he noticed that the tea inside the cup had started to visibly boil. Alarmed, Shin panicked and was trying to cool down the tea enough for it to stop visibly boiling. His efforts were in vain, because instead of just cooling it down, he managed to freeze the tea into one cold, solid mass.
Shoutaro noticed what had happened, and immediately had a grimace on his face. The implications of a U.S. senator having a son that was a mutant when the current political climate had a bias against them could hurt his career. It's not that he wasn't sympathetic to mutant civil rights, because he himself is a bit more liberal than most other congressmen that are out there since he was trying to help with pro-mutant legislation. But with elections coming around soon enough for him, he didn't want any republican anti-mutant rivals to his senate seat attack him based on that lone fact, much less since it's about his own public image... and his son, of course. He immediately decided to take Shin out of school, and contacted Professor Xavier in order to enroll him in his institute to have Shin be able to better control his abilities.

In February, he was taken away by weird Angel Statues, and was taken back in time, to 1560 in Nagoya, Japan, and lived there until the Autumn of 1561, where he was rescued taken back to the present by Sora and Riku. While he is actually two years older chronologically, he is still going to be officially recognized as being 16 years of age.
PERSONALITY:
Shin is usually cool, calm, and collected for the most part in everyday life. His approach to things is usually laid back, and is more prone to sit back and observe people from a distance. He is highly intelligent, very witty, and can be quite sarcastic to a fault at times, though when the time calls for it, he can be quite serious about things.
It's in his nature to be introverted among people he doesn't know, but once someone befriends him, he is basically more friendly and open toward them than he would be otherwise. He can get annoyed, and sometimes quite easily, though he would still usually try to keep his annoyance to himself, unless he feels the need to voice it. Otherwise, it is somewhat difficult to get him outright angry, though one surefire way to achieve that is to threaten or harm someone he deems to be close enough to him.
He is rather wary of authority figures, more because of his prior experience in middle school, so he will most likely only do just do anything that is required of him for class without saying a word unless spoken to. If they step over the line any further than what he might deem unnecessary, he will basically clam up and actively try to ignore the person in question. He does this more to avoid getting really irritated; besides, if he's quiet, no one can really say that he was out of line. Then again, he will NOT tolerate stupidity if it is imposed on him by a teacher. That is one of few thing that might get Shin quite annoyed to the point of not even caring what might happen.
He is actually quite the studious sort of person, despite being one of those types of guys that likes to participate in sports, any kind of sports. That somewhat leads toward the fact that Shin is rather competitive when it comes to most anything. Whether it be academics, sports, or some other seemingly unimportant thing, he still dislikes losing.
When someone actually does manage to get him out of his shell [at least, with that person], there is a quite different feel from him that would probably surprise people. He smiles, is pretty much talkative about things in general, and actually manages to care about such people, making him a rather loyal friend though thick and thin.
APPEARANCE:
He is a teen that is pretty much fashion conscious since he's been living in a highly diverse metropolitan area, especially where private schools with students that always easily judge others are involved. He pretty much keeps up with the times, and even his hairstyle reflects the more modern styles that most other teens in his previous school used, so indeed, he liked to always be well groomed.
He has dark brown hair, and brown eyes. While he isn't as muscular as other people, he is pretty much physically fit and is able to do most anything other people can do. He is pretty much athletic as he likes various types of sports. He's probably not as tall as the other guys, standing at only 5'8" 5'10 1/2".
POWERS: He has simultaneous cryokinesis and pyrokinesis. They not only manifests themselves in him being able to produce ice and fire, but also being able to control them in almost any way that he pleases. He also naturally has resistance to both cold and heat. His control over these powers aren't perfect, but he's trying his best. He also wants to see how far he can take these abilities, and in which ways they can be used.
'How far' can be pretty far if used creatively. If he ever finds out that he can somehow heat the air around him to give him a sort of 'lift', he could just learn how to actually fly around. Or, it might come around as a 'need to do' thing, because sometimes things just happen instinctively, but he has not seen a reason to do so for now. Lift through heating ambient air around him gives him the ability to fly, gained during his time in the past, after an assassination attempt.
Fire abilities are actually now completely under his control, being able to do with it as he pleases, from a very, very far distance, in a very wide area, and can control the heat very well. Heat temperatures can now actually go quite high, with his fire now going well into blue/indigo territory, and can also now extinguish it all at will.
Ice abilities are also completely under his control, making ice at will, at almost any distance, form it into anything he wants to [for both defense and offense], even as precise as he wants to, enough to make something like a sword with an edge sharp enough to cut. Also something that he learned to do, was to freeze organic matter instantly, though that's done mainly by taking away their heat, causing them to act as if they were dipped in liquid nitrogen. Sad to say, but he's actually had a fair bit of experience with this one, and knows how to do this at will as well.
