Rodney's face went soft and really sad. "John. Jesus," he whispered. "Not everything has to happen in the worst possible way for you."

That's it, right there. Without Rodney and Teyla and Ronon, but especially Rodney, I don't think that John would ever experience it or have a prayer at believing it.

This is beautiful. I love the way they honor each other with their actions in this fic. Very powerful.

Oh, thank you so much. It made me so pleased that you singled out that line, which for me is one of the central ideas I was trying to find my way to when I sat down to write this story. And I completely agree that for John, it's only his team who could ever manage to convince him that sometimes there really is a better way.

Thanks for taking the time to let me know you liked this.

Well, thank you for writing it! The other line that jumped out at me was "Stop that," Rodney said immediately, voice muffled by the sheets. "If I wanted your secrets I'd hack your confidential records.", which is beautiful and soft and tender in its own way. Not everyone can get away with a statement like that as well as Rodney can ( ... )

I'm so honored that Unidentified was your gateway drug! Seriously, that pleases me to no end -- I had a similar trajectory into SGA, and remembering the caliber of the stories that sucked me in (I think it was Pru's "Bell Curve," Cesperanza's "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead," Astolat's "Transcendental," and Synecdochic's "Freedom's Just Another Word for Nothing Left to Lose"), it means a lot to me that I wrote something that served the same purpose for someone else. Have fun going through the reams of great fic in this fandom -- I've been reading in it for almost two years now and I still feel like there are a million fantastic stories I haven't found yet.

Thank you so much! I have to credit shaenie for making me start thinking about what story there might be to that image that I'd want to tell. I'm so pleased that the fic and the art are in harmony for you.

Intense. Your Rodney is very understanding of John.

I liked the description of the ceremony being like church, important to some, but a bit of a chore to sit through for others. That detail seemed very authentic to me.

I'm glad the church description worked for you. One of my quibbles with both SGA episodes and SGA fandom is a tendency to use the Pegasus natives as set dressing, or as some sort of generic crowd scene to establish atmosphere. I've definitely been guilty of that in more than one fic, but for this fic, I found I actually liked the Balcai, and I wanted the team to be connected to them, so I looked for ways within the confines of the story structure to make them feel more like real people.

Thanks for reading!
