Whew...it's been a crazy couple of weeks. I've moved to Texas! I've bought a car, found a new apartment, started my new job, and lost a cat...yep...I lost the friend's I'm staying with's cat...I'm an ass...
But we all knew that from the get go. The ass part that is. Besides the bad luck with the cat Texas has been pretty cool. Amanda and Tom have taken good care of me down here and the people at work are pretty chill....soooo Office Space!!!
Anyway...stories...
So I got into Texas two monday's ago, and ended up renting a dodge charger for a couple of days!!! pretty sweet! But while driving the charger I found the Mazda dealership and bought myself (over the course of two days and with crazy insurance fiascos) a brand new Mazda 3 w/ all the the trimmings :) Everything from Auto-Manual Shifting, to spoiler, to Moon Roof, to leather interior, To BOSE sound system (7 speakers), to my favorite color, BLUE!!! Pretty happy with my purchase, especially since I got a deal on it that I wasn't supposed to get, thank you NASA :) :) With my new car I returned the Charger and was able to then look for apartments. I ended up going to an apartment finder (they give a free service to show you around and are paid on commision from the apartment complex) and after seeing 7 places, I ended up finding a nice apartment with a pool 50 ft from my room :) with BBQ's right next to the pool. It's also 10 mins from work with the work out center on the way! So that should work out quite awesomely!
Everyone I've met here seems pretty nice, course I've only met most of them one time so we'll see. My dept. chair from UW was down the other day for a conference so we had an AA Alum dinner and he gave a presentation on the dept. and the renovation of Guggenheim, it was quite nice and we all shared our stories from the dept. I was the youngest one there, but most of the others weren't too much older. Anyway, it was a good time and a project manager (73 yrs old) from Boeing kicked my ass at Pool twice (red felt table :) ). Their place was a mansion with like 5 master bed rooms and 3 big screen tv's, two bars and multiple bathrooms. A couple of there Bedrooms had even been in Magazines!!! And all with a view of the lake! Very sweet! Auto-Hurricane Blinds too! All the alums were pretty cool too.
Today, after trying to find the cat all morning, I took off to the Wings of Houston Air Show and got to see some crazy biplane stunts as well as the Air Force Thunderbirds! They suprised us twice with a slow flyover while another one zoomed by! Punks! But Awesome!! Then toured the planes a bit and headed home. I tried to get the keys to my new apt. but with traffic I was late so I just headed home. Little did I realize that the way I was going was slightly in error and I actually ended up in Santa Fe, Tx before heading back North to Tom and Amanda's...oh well I made it home.
Tomorrow I move to my new apt., Tues parents get in with all my stuff, and life will begin to settle a bit. :) Can't wait to use the pool!!
Hope all is well with everyone, probably be gone for a bit as the new Apt. comes online. Take care till then.
P.S. Popeye's Chicken is da Bomb for dinner down here :)
