I decided to go out to eat by myself tonight so I could eat half of it there and take half of it home for lunch tomorrow. So I ordered my food, divided it in half, and asked to box the rest of it up. The waiter took my food and my silverware and everything, and brought back the check. But while I was in the middle of paying it, the chef came out with a couple of spring rolls and gave them to me.
I was startled and stammered something like "are you giving these to me?" because he kept asking me "is it okay?"and I couldn't figure out what he meant by that. But I realized he was giving them to me, which was awesome. Unfortunately I didn't have any silverware, so I was struggling to figure out how to eat them without burning the heck out of my fingers.
I'm not sure I succeeded (ouch!), but that was really nice of them. I wrote a little note on the check thanking them and also thanked my waiter because I wasn't sure where the chef was.
That was pretty cool. It just goes to show that sometimes when you know what you want and do it confidently, good things happen. Maybe they were taking pity on me because of the rain or because they felt I didn't eat enough, or maybe they were just being nice. But either way, it happened because I didn't let feeling uneasy or uncomfortable stop me from doing what I really wanted to do.
things that are awesome,
yay
