We also have a tendency towards "coincidence" in our family. You can't get an old friend or loved one off your mind so you call and find out that their child just died, or you don't call and a couple of days later find out that *they* died (which tends to make you call when you get those feelings).

I try not to be gullible about it but I've had too many personal experiences, and have too many friends who've had them, to be able to dismiss any but the most obvious fraud.
