Call The Boy

So Jamie came to see me today.....

-----------------

Jamie walked across the hall to Kris's room. She was carrying a box of animal crackers and drinking a small carton of chocolate milk. She had just finished running and was starving. She knocked softly on the door and waited.

Kris looked up from her laptop, she had spent the better part of a night hacking into police files, yes it was illegal but it had helped her out a little. At least now, she knew a little about the drug dealers in the local area, quickly shutting it down, she got up out of her chair, adjusting her sling for the moment before opening her door," Hey Jamie."

Jamie's face darkened as she took in her friend's arm and expression. "What the heck happened to you?"

Smirking lightly, Kris arched an eyebrow." Ran into the wrong sort of men, this time, no bumpy foreheads and teeth but evil nonetheless." She scowled slightly before gesturing with her good hand." Come on in."

Jamie sat on the edge of the bed and continued to shove cookies into her mouth. "what kind of bad guys?"

Kris sat down on her bed, shifting her arm slightly," The drug dealing kind of bad guys.." Her voice trailed off before her expression darkened and she spoke, with a venomous tone to her voice," Using fucking kids to carry their drugs for them."

Jamie nodded. "Dealers do whatever it takes to make money. How did you meet up with them?

" Patrolling, heard some noise so decided to check it out and there they were , with one of the kids." Kris remarked, dark eyes remained fixed on one spot," Sufficed to say, we got into it and whilst I was dealing with one, the other shoved his knife straight into my arm."

"Did you get any information out of them? And where was it?"

" The goons were about as helpful as quicksand." That was her way of saying not very helpful," All one of them said was, he was working for the city or something like that, and to be honest with you, I can't tell you off the bat, if I were to find the area again, I'd know then but I'm not good with places or directions for that matter."

"Working for the city?" Jamie shook her head. "Maybe he has protection from a police officer. It happens." She offered the box of animal crackers to Kris. "This really bothers you. Not that it shouldn't, but even me and my pom-poms aren't going to help cheer you much. What's up, Kris?"

Kris smiled lightly, taking some of the offered animal crackers, chewing on one slowly." I've had..experience in this sort of area, not so much the drug dealing and the taking of drugs, but the being used by people to do their dirty work thing, and kids, it isn't right.." She trailed off, her expression darkening, before she looked over at Jamie, her eyes glinted with determination," I'm going to put a stop to this, one way or another. Just like I did with Orion." Her voice wavered at the mention of Orion but her expression held strong as she ate another animal cracker.

" Kris, I want you to promise me you're not going to do anything by yourself. Maybe you could talk to Buffy or Faith. I bet they would want to help. And so do I, but I don't want you getting hurt."

" Buffy's not exactly in the best shape to help..." Kris pointed out," I wouldn't want to put her or the baby in harms way." She shrugged her shoulders, leaning back," I've already done the reckless thing once, when I was under the influence of voodoo so I doubt I'm going to be doing anymore vigilante acts."

"Please don't. I like to keep my friends stab wound-free." Jamie smiled and drank the last of her milk. "How's the arm, by the way?"

" Hurts." Kris remarked with a small grin, before slipping the sling off before she unwrapped the bandage, the wound was pretty nasty, over ten something stitches," I'll be fine in another day or so, slayer healing, have to love it."

Jamie's eyes widdened at the sight of the huge cut. "That's nasty! I'd say you're lucky to have super healing! You could have bled to death!"

" I'm just lucky, Nick was downstairs and he knows how to page someone." Kris commented with a chuckle before she refastened her bandage.

"Nick? Whos' that?"

" You know, cute dark haired guy who works behind the front desk?" Kris said, looking across at Jamie.

"No, I've never met him." She laughed, "You mean there are real boys around here? Not just Giles?"

" Yes there are real boys around here, granted, we outnumber them ten to one." Kris chuckled softly, holding out her hand." There's Andrew, Matt, Nick, Xander and Ryan."

"Apparently, I'm not friendly enough. But then I have been kind of busy getting my butt kicked.

Kris looked to her friend," How's everything going?"

Jamie shrugged. "Training is going OK, I guess. We work hard, but I don't really know how much progress I'm making."

" Slow but steady wins the race." Kris commented thoughtfully.

"Maybe." Jamie sighed. "My head says that, but there's some other part of me that just wants to..I don't know what it wants."

Kris chewed on her bottom lip before offering," You know when you train, do you ever feel like you can take on the world? Like totally pumped?"

Jamie furrowed her brow. "Sort of. I feel confident, I guess. But it's more determined, not pumped up exactly, but juiced. Like I'm going to explode." she smiled sadly. "And here I came to cheer you up. Maybe I should have brought the pom-poms."

Kris shrugged her shoulders, edging over on the bed, putting her good arm around Jamie, giving her a squeeze," It's normal to feel that way, I know I do, it's like adrenaline, but you gotta be careful with it, you know?"

"I'll be careful if you'll be careful." She patted Kris on the leg and smiled. "besides, I'm not even really patrolling yet. Well, not officially, anyway."

" I'm always careful." Kris said with a grin and wink before remarking quietly," Except when I'm under a voodoo spell." But she covered it with a cough before smiling genuinely," I will, I promise."

"Good. I'm going to hold you to that. So, I got a car. Now there can be speeding and cruising!"

" Ooh a car?" Kris asked with a small smirk," Sounds like fun!"

"yeah, I missed mine. I have a speed thing, so I needed some way to get my jones."

" Cool, I'm still a..fully licensed and experienced pedestrian." Kris commented with a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders.

"You don't drive?"

" Nope, I don't." Kris said.

Jamie shook her head, confused. "How is that possible?"

" I've never cared or felt the need to drive so I just didn't learn.." Kris remarked casually, really, what was the big deal and not driving?

" I just like to go fast." Jamie smiled at her friend,"You can ride with me and if you decide you want to give it a try, I'll teach you."

Kris smiled back," Sounds good to me, I think I'd like that." She glanced to her floor as her black kitten darted out from the bathroom chasing a small bouncy ball," That's Cleo by the way."

Jamie laughed as the kitten batted the ball around the room. "She's adorable! Cats are cool. Never had any real experience with them though."

" They're wonderful creatures, keep you company when no-one else is around and talk about comforting." Kris sighed softly, leaning back against her wall, she thought back to Hayden and of how they hadn't really talked in a while now, and how they had all gone crazy after their first night together, maybe she had done something wrong then, maybe she should just ask him flat out..or maybe she should just wait for him to get in touch.

Jamie looked down at the kitten, who was now investigating her fingers and then back up at Kris. "what else is going on, Kris? This isn;t all about those dealers."

Kris let out a long breath," It's about Hayden, I mean, he left a message on my machine over like a week ago, saying how he wasn't going to be around because he was busy, which is a perfectly okay and normal type of thing, it's just he had been kinda off with me before that.."

Jamie scratched the kitten behind her ears. "When was the last time you talked to him?"

" Beach party?" Kris replied uncertaintly," We didn't really talk then, though, he left in his own car and told me to call him and before I got the chance, he called me and left that message,"

"Did you try calling him?"

" I was kind of ...pissy when I got that message." Kris replied awkwardly," I've not been having a too good a time at the not being paranoid ever since the Orion incident." She shrugged her shoulders," I've thought about it, but he did say, he wasn't going to be around, that he was busy so I always wussed out."

Jamie smiled at the kitten as she allowed herself to be picked up. She looked at Kris and smirked. "Three words...Call the boy."

Kris smirked softly," Yeah, maybe I will, even if, it's to rip him a new ass hole." She teased with a chuckle.

"Well, you should at least find out if he deserves it. He might. Then again, he might not."

" I just hate phones." Kris said with a small frown," Seem so impersonal but the last time I asked him what was going on, face to face, he...didn't react too well. Used my past mistakes against me, eventhough he did apologise for using them."

Jamie frowned. "He shouldn't have done that. But when people are scared and upset, they attack."

" Yeah, I know." Kris said with an understanding nod," I just...wish I knew what he was scared or upset about." She trailed off, her expression looking rather sad at this moment.

"Of course you do. Again, I say, Call the boy."

" I'll give it a try, but if .. he blows me off, don't worry about the crash and bangs you're bound to hear." Kris remarked jokingly.

"Aww...sweetie. You know, what? I will be worried, but I think you can work this out. "

Kris smiled softly, before she gave Jamie a squeeze, giving her a kiss on the cheek," Thanks Jamie, you're a great friend."

Jamie squeezed her back. "You're pretty darn good yourself."

Kris chuckled softly," Well, can't go wrong then.." She shifted her arm, growling lightly at the pain.

Jamie noticed the wince and frowned. "You haven't been sleeping well, have you?"

Kris shook her head, smirking a little sheepishly," Is it that obvious?"

Jamie stood up and crossed her arms and said determinedly. "Into bed, right now. Slayer healing needs a little help you know."

Kris' eyebrow arched," Oh really now?" She smirked, slipping off the flip flops she had been wearing before moving up her bed, to slip under the covers.

Jamie waited for kris to get settled under the covers. Then she grinned and began to tuck the covers tightly around Kris' form, avoiding her arm, the end result being Kris in a cocoon of blankets. Jamie stood up and surveyed her handiwork. "There. All cozy?"

Kris laughed, faking that she couldn't breathe before simply smiling." Definitely cozy."

Jamie laughed and made the blanket less tight. "Get some sleep. Tomorrow you'll feel better."

Kris kissed the fingertips of her good hand and placed it to Jamie's cheek as she leaned down to make the blanket less tight," I'll do my best and thanks."

"No thanks are necessary, but you're welcome." she said as she crossed to the door. "'I'll find you tomorrow, OK?"

" Sounds good." Kris murmured softly, her eyes already closing as Cleo purred, pacing around Kris' form for a moment before she settled into the crook of Kris' arm.

Jamie hit the light switch as she closed the door behind her.

With friends like her, I think I'm going to be just fine but for now, I have a phone call to make, whilst I still have the courage to make it. Wish me luck?
