War is over, if you want it...

So in watching "Anthony Bordain: No Reservations" (food network show where a snarky critic tastes food all over the world...love it) I learned some really upsetting shit about Laos and it really pissed me off, which I was not prepared for while watching the food network.

Apparently during the Vietnam war, we dropped a RIDICULOUS amount of bombs on Laos, who we were NEVER fighting, who had no business being involved in the war at all, total innocence, and yet they just happened to unfortunately be neighbors. When returning from some Vietnamese slaughter, American bombers were encouraged to just "get rid of their extras" over Laos.

WHAT THE FUCK.

So the reason all this was brought up was because there are still about 78 MILLION little bombs spread all over this country that are UN-EXPLODED, that are still killing about 100 people a year. People who weren't even alive during this war, let alone having fuckall to do with it, are dying because our country is a giant asshole. There is an establishment of people there who go around the countryside with metal detectors and little flags, finding these bombs so as to try to collect and detonate them all safely by hand. To clean up after our pointless, deadly mess. They've only saved themselves from one half of one percent of the amount that is out there. Over the course of the 30-40 years since the war THAT DIDN'T INVOLVE THEM ended.

It makes me sick.

Fuck anyone who glorifies war.

I really hope Obama can live up to all this hope the world has resting on his shoulders. I really, really do.
