Oh yeah....there are other things on the ballot....

It occured to me, in the midst of the Obama/McCain hullabaloo that there will be a ton of other things/people on this ballot that no one is talking about. And actually I've found it's remarkably harder to find much information about these other people running for smaller offices, but here's a teensy glimpse into some stuff that I found. Mind you, these are just a few small points that caught my eye and will inevitably sway my votes. Maybe yours.

REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS
CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT 7
(Vote for one)

Elijah Cummings (Dem.)
--- Co-sponsor of the Responsible Redeployment from Iraq Act (to bring our troops home). Actively works to support and improve our Witness Security and Protection, to decrease witness intimidation and fear of reporting crimes. Working hard to decrease gang and drug problems, co-sponsor of Second Chances Act (offering drug treatment/rehab to people in jail so they can re-enter society drug-free). Wants to INCREASE the following on Federal Budget Priorities: Arts, Education, Environment, Homeland, Security, International Aid, United Nations, Welfare.
28 years of political experience.

Michael T. Hargadon (Rep.)
--- Endorsed by the National Rifle Association (and supports movement to allow people to carry concealed guns). Pro-life activist; doesn't believe abortions should be allowed even in the case of incest or rape. Wants to ELIMINATE the following from Federal Budget Priorities: Arts, Education, Environment, Homeland Security, International Aid, United Nations. Wants to abolish all Federal Welfare Programs.
Only political experience is as a candidate.

Ronald Owens-Bey (Lib.)
--- Very hard to find much info about...haha...refused to answer questions about political stances like the candidates above did. Only political experience is as a candidate. Otherwise, a social worker.

JUDGE, COURT OF SPECIAL APPEALS AT LARGE
(Vote Yes or No for Continuance in Office)

Deborah Eyler
--- Been a judge in the Court of Special Appeals for 11 years. Lawyer since 1982. Served in Sierra Leon with Peace Corps. Supports Barack Obama.

Robert A. Zarnoch
--- Been judge in Court of Special Appeals for one year. Supports the law that marriage remain ONLY between a man and a woman. Doesn't believe gays should have the right to marry.

(These two were hard to find much info about. Feel free to go crazy looking for yourself!)

And of course, I will support the Bond Issues that deal with loans for the arts, aka the Lyric Opera House, Everyman Theatre, Walters Art Museum, and Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Go arts!

Obviously, there are other things on the ballot too that I haven't mentioned here, but I recommend that you take a look at a sample ballot yourself (http://www.mdelections.org/voter_registration/v2/general_2008/Baltimore%20City/BS%201.pdf)
and research before you vote on Tuesday. If anything, you can feel a little bit smarter. Go brain!

........Oh yeah, and these guys:

Barack Obama
--- Awesome. Amazing. Fucking Brilliant.

John McCain
--- See: George Bush; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; Jurrasic Park.

;)
