clerks II gets 8-minute standing ovation at cannes
i actually wasn't too sure how good this was gonna be. i absolutely LOVE kevin smith's original jersey trilogy (clerks, mallrats, and chasing amy), but none of the trailers and promotional material i'd seen made me think clerks II was gonna be on the same level as those. all the characters would be in their mid-30's now... and clerks, to me, was all about that mid-20's in-between stage when you just do whatever passes the time while you figure out what it is you really want to do with your life. and that doesn't really translate well to 30-somethings.
but cannes liking it? that makes me think there's really hope that kevin smith's still got it.
