Brahms and Lute

Johannes Brahms made "endless transcriptions, mastering lute and organ tablature (...)". (Hugh Wood, A German Requiem, 2011, in: Brahms. Ein deutsches Requiem. Gardiner (CD booklet), 2012, p. 14)

I wonder if his occupation with lute music left traces in his own music.
