Yesterday stringwoman and I took the afternoon off so I could be her chauffeur while she car-shopped. Then we went and saw Angels and DemonsLike most American movies these days, there's a notice near the end of the credits to the affect that the American Humane Society kept their beady eyes on the crew and made sure no animals were hurt. Sort of OT: it irks me greatly that we have regulations governing the handling of animals in movies but we don't have regulations governing the treatment of porn actors in porn movies.

Well, if they're going to make that argument, what about stuntmen? They do dangerous stuff, but they're well treated from what I've heard.

It's the sex hang-up, I think. Because, you know, sex is dirty, and stunt work isn't.

Does the sound of my eyes rolling in disgust at the hypocrisy reach all the way out to the coast?

a world-famous scholar of symbology, especially one doing to sort of research that would require access to the Vatican Archives and Library, would not be able to read Latin fairly well

Not even for McGregor and Skarsgård would I see that movie. I can do my own guilty pleasure justification for a number of movies, but that isn't one of them. However, I'm glad you found some of it enjoyable.
