Statistics is turning out to be problematic. I ordered the textbook, and got an older edition out of the library to use in the meantime. Turns out the older edition has the chapters ordered differently, so I already did the wrong reading. The class notes are pretty much gibberish (maybe because I haven't read the right parts of the text, but still) and the software that's required won't run on a mac. There's alternative software on the computers at school, but again, her instructions make no sense. So I spent 7 hours working on a lab which I ended up pretty much submitting half-finished. The entire first section was answering questions in the textbook, which I couldn't do because the page numbers and problems are all different. Much of the rest of it was using this program to generate graphs and use them to answer questions, and I couldn't get the graphs. So I drew the graphs that I could and answered as many questions as I could...but what more can I do? I emailed the prof sort of hoping that she'd give me a little extra time. Michael might be able to install the program on his windows parallel, and if that works and someone in the class gets back to me with the questions from the text, I might have a shot at finishing it. Even so...I'm finding the material incredibly hard. Like stupid hard. Like crying in the computer lab hard. And it's a 100 level class. That freaks me out...I don't know if this professor is really just that hard, or if I've really forgotten that much math. If I drop it on Monday, I should get a full refund, but then I need to either switch to the math course that I've already missed a week of and that would prevent me from seeing Michael except on weekends, or pick up a fourth class in the fall. Neither is a great option. So the plan at the moment is to sit down tomorrow night with Michael and see if he can walk me through what I'm supposed to understand so far. If it goes well, I'll try to stick with it. I just don't want to put myself in the situation of doing poorly and messing up my gpa. Just praying this works out.
