Things are moving along. My birthday went well, I went home for the night to see the girls. We got pedicures then watched Juno and ate pizza and cheesecake. Emily got me a belly dancer poster. As always when we all get together there was quite a bit of tmi and outrageousness. Saturday I got my hair cut and watched dancing with the stars with my mom. She paid for my computer, so I wasn't expecting anything, but she got me some new towels and brita filters. Saturday night I came home and went over the Michael's. He got me more memory for my computer, the tshirt I wanted and a twilight turtle, which is the coolest thing ever. It's shaped like a turtle stuffed animal, but it projects constellations onto the ceiling. He also took me to Symeon's and a movie, then took me to ihop this morning. So overall a pretty good birthday. I'm feeling better about being 24 than I did about 23. I was really depressed at being stuck and not making any progress. Now I feel like I'm at least moving forward.

In other news, I now have three jobs. I'm doing work study in the library at school, which barely counts because I work a late shift on Sundays so I hardly ever have to do anything, and it's only 5 hours a week. I'm still at my temp job, because they kept having to delay when they could hire their new person. Last Thursday they actually offered me the job permanently because the girl that was going to take my position decided she needed to be home with her kids more, and I was considering it, but about 2 hours after that the library director called and offered me that job! So I debated it all day Thursday, but when I woke up Friday I had just decided to take the library job and didn't think about it anymore. So that starts tomorrow, and the temp job continues until October 10. So I'm going to be crazy busy for the next couple weeks.

School is mostly good, but I think I need to start putting in more time studying even when I don't have stuff due. My astronomy class is the type where she never collects anything but she's going to have us turn a ton of stuff in at the end of the semester, so I need to make myself do that before the last minute. My other classes are okay, just a lot of reading, and a lot more abstract stuff than last semester.

I also had a thought tonight that really annoyed me. All the time I was in school, anytime I asked a teacher why I had to learn something, they always told me it was so I could get a job. So I figured once I decided what I liked I could focus on that and forget everything else. And it didn't give me much incentive to learn, because if I didn't like it then, I wasn't going to pick it for a career. I wish someone had explained to me that knowledge builds on knowledge, and you need to know about all kinds of things so you're more likely to understand all the stuff you encounter.
