Things are looking really quite good for me at the moment.
I still haven't heard word about my appeal (the hearing was over a week ago so i should get the results very soon) but i've had some lovely things happen.
I've got a job doing the illustrations for a book. Well it seems i have, he's seen my work and thinks it's good for the job, so i'm going to start making some test drawings for him to see and comment on. It's a great thing for me, the book is about weird practices from the past like 'the frog barometer' and so on. It's unpaid of course (though if it gets a bigger print run i'll get something) but is wonderful for experience and getting my name out.
Also, even better, i recieved an email a few nights ago from the Opus Gallery in newcastle. They saw my work in the degree show catalogue and contacted me to say they would be interested in exhibiting something of mine in the future. This is amazing. The gallery has shown Proper Artists like Tracey Emin, Antony Gormley and my favourite Peter Blake. And even if it doesn't work ou it's an amazing boost for my self esteem to know i stood out in the catalogue enough for a well respected gallery to be interested in me.
In a way in fact it was good for me to get a bad mark in my degree. Because I've always felt unsure about my work, but i was genuinely shocked when i got a third and felt i deserved better, whch shows me that at least i think my works good. And since then i've had fantastic things happen.
so take that rubbish art college!
