hi! i have been there, my friend. from over-playing my violin in orchestras, practises, music camps etc, i ended up with compressed neck joints. Not pretty, let me tell you!
I went to a physiotherapist for about 2 years before it actually cleared up =P He tried gentle stuff but in the end had to do something called 'manipulative therapy'. I think the name speaks for itself. Anyhu, that's what worked for me.
If the physio isn't the go, I'd just suggest keeping a good posture (straight back/neck etc) outside violin playing, and in between violin playing do some neck exercises and stretches, such as: ** turning your head slowly from left to right ** sticking your neck/head out as far as you can and retracting it back ** rolling your shoulders, slowly, backwards and forwards
These are just a few that the physio suggested, anyway. Hope all goes well for you! =D
