Yep...seasonal depression time! At least, that's what I assume. Last year I could easily chalk it up to pre-losing-Ten-angst, but this year there's really nothing to pin it on other than just feeling...down. Oh there's lots of little things sure. Now I've got anniversary-of-losing-Ten angst, and I've got this weird sort-of post-diet-depression thing going on as well which is just crap, because I should totally feel happy about that, but all in all it's just a prevailing sense of "Hmm. So this is it, eh."
So! I thought I'd spread a little holiday cheer. VERY POTENT cheer, so do have a care if you make this, because it will sneak up and bite you on the ass. It's so yummy, and it doesn't taste as boozy as it is, and the next thing you know you're alternating between groping your friends, bouts of pointless weeping and dancing like a jackass to rockabilly N Sync covers...erm, not that I've been there, or anything.
Wassail:
1 gallon apple cider
1 gallon white wine
1 orange, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
1 Tbsp whole cloves
1 Tbsp allspice
8 cinnamon sticks
2 cups white rum
Simmer all non-alcoholic ingredients for 2-3 hours. Add booze and heat through, approx. 30 minutes. Enjoy the warm, floaty taste of autumn. :)
(BTW, Mr. gin and I usually halve this recipe and it lasts us for at least a week.)
