Doctor Who meme, day 13
Late meme is late. At this rate I'll be doing this damn meme until September. But I had to give this one a lot of thought.
Day 13 - Your Favourite Villain
Well my answer is going to be predictable, because it's been everyone else's, but I did put a lot of thought into it. Because once again, the "villains" are sometimes kind of hard to designate in Doctor Who. I mean, I love the Judoon for instance, and they're not Villains, but they're not good guys either and they damn near kill everyone (and, as we know from Turn Left, would have had it not been for the Doctor). The Slitheen are ridiculous until along comes Margaret who is just awesome. In fact, I'm strongly tempted to change my answer to Blon Fel Fotch Passameer Day Slitheen as I type this, if for no other reason then her beautiful, heart-wrenching speech to the Doctor in Boom Town: "Sometimes you let one go. Let me go." It doesn't say it has to be new Who, and I sort-of love the Raston Warrior Robot in all its hilarious glory. But like I said I'm going to be predictable and go with...
The Master (specifically John Simm), 2007 - 2010
For all the levels RTD and John brought to this old character, making him, alternately, funny, sexy, horrifying and miserable. The character honest to god squicked me out in S3 with what he did to the TARDIS and the horrible implications about what he did to Martha's family and Jack and the Doctor for that year, and I was sort of Meh when he died. But then when they brought him back, they made him such a shell of what he was, filthy and starving and insane and sad, so sad. You don't really believe that he's feeling any real joy in torturing the Doctor and taking over the world, again, at the beginning of TEoT2, it just reminds me of what Shyanne said to her mother in Blackpool about how she treated her like a bitch for so long, it just became something she did. He was fucked up and so desperate to belong right up to the end, he didn't do the right thing until it became clear that the Time Lords weren't taking him with them, but he did do the right thing and saved everybody, saved his friend, his enemy. Do I think there was anything noble in it? No, I do not. Do I think he's gone forever? Oh hell no, but this version probably. If and when he's ever brought back again he will probably just be the evil, moustache-twirling version he was before, which is a shame.
