EOT, again
So I just watched it again for the purposes of screencapping, and...
...I liked it even more than the first time!
I gather, from reading my f-list, that I'm kind of in the minority, here. But it occurred to me that I think RTD is doing two things here:
First, he's giving us all one last, big, cracky laugh before he rips our hearts out. Those last scenes were completely, as Rusty would say, a hoot. This is what he does, and why it's so much fun when he gets to play with the Master (heh), because it's such an OTT character anyway that he can just have a field day, with the cackling and the evil smirking and the completely ridiculous plots for world domination. And bless John Simm for just going for it and giving it 100% of his crazy effort.
The second thing he's doing is kind-of thumbing his nose at us, just a bit. "Oh, did I say I wasn't going to bring the Master back again? Well I am. SEVERAL TRILLION TIMES. MWAH-HA-HA-HA, MARVELOUS!"
I love him. I may be singing a very different tune after part 2 airs, but right now I'm grateful that at least he's giving us a bit of fun on the way down.
