More coherent Waters of Mars thoughts
I just watched it again for purposes of screencapping a picspam, which I will post later tonight. When we watched it last night, I was admittedly more than half past drunk as I'd been stressed out about it and pounding beers for a couple hours to try and force myself to relax. I started weeping during Ten's slow-mo walk away from the base, listening to the sounds of everyone dying. Then he came back and shit got real, and I just sat there like :O . When we reached the end, I was so confused about what we'd just seen I had to back it up to where Ten came back and rewatch the entire ending again just to make sure I hadn't imagined that. I didn't sleep well, and I have a hangover.
I am of three minds about this development. The first is a very sad understanding and resignation. Yes, this makes sense. I'm just surprised it didn't happen sooner. I can't even begin to count the fics where Ten has come to this same sort of mad epiphany, it just usually in those cases led to him deciding to fuck Rose, which I fully endorse, and not go all loopy and SAVE EVERYONE, EVERYONE LIVES, HOORAY, NOW THANK ME! So I understand it. I just don't want it.
This leads me to reaction number two: anger. So this is how they're going to help millions of children and other viewers deal with Ten's regeneration, by turning him into a villain? Now, at the very end, they're going to make him earn his death? This makes me so fucking angry, I can't even talk about it.
And the third: fear. I have harboured certain fears about the finale ever since seeing certain spoiler photos, like, a year ago, and this development does not ease those fears, not one bit. The title of the finale, the hubris, Ten imagining himself as some sort of time warrior and fucking everything up...it all horribly, horribly fits with my fear.
On a completely shallow note, Tennant was so goddamn gorgeous throughout the entire episode, I don't think I took screencaps of much besides him. There was a lot of tongue as well. I will provide photographic evidence later.
