Chapter 01: Karma Got the Prince

[12:18 pm]

“Clearly you’ve made a mistake. This isn’t possible, Jun,” Nino complained. He felt like burying his face but wasn't free to do so. Toma's unforgiving grip made it impossible for him to forget his situation. He settled with a loud sigh instead.

Arguing was making him expend more energy than he wished to, but he was not willing to surrender just yet. He had tried all of his usual bag of tricks to get around his situation, but their class president, Matsumoto Jun, was more stubborn than usual. Charming him did not play either.

Jun discontinued the discussion he was having with two of their classmates to face one nettled Nino.

“What’s not possible? It isn’t for real anyway, and it’s just for a few hours,” Jun abruptly replied.

Did he just say that?

“For a few hours?!” Nino’s voice rose a little. There was no way he was saying yes to this to anyone. Well, okay, maybe if he was bribed with three games, maybe.

Jun finally dismissed their classmates before shifting all of his attention to him, at last. “About five hours. The person paid for the whole afternoon,” The nonchalant way Jun answered irritated Nino more but he could only glare.

“This won’t kill you, so stop making this hard.”

His ears did not miss the teasing tone in Jun’s voice.

“Sitting here's already draining the life out of me. Not to mention that you disturbed my lunch, too!” he retorted.

Jun simply smiled. “What lunch? Too much instant noodles isn't good for you anyway.”

“This is ridiculous! Absolutely ridiculous!” Nino muttered more to himself than to anyone else. Someone dared meddle with his life. That person, he vowed, should hide for the rest of time. He was Ninomiya Kazunari for pity's sake. The students of their school knew better than to mess with him - that included the upperclassmen.

He took the time to absorb the absurdity of it all. It was hard to come up with one single culprit if he thought about it. He did not believe in it but he supposed this was what they called karma, karma for being disobliging.

Nino had voiced his opinions against the marriage booth in their previous meeting but majority of the class was convinced that it was profitable. The money part was enticing, but he was still disinterested. It was no surprise that no one sided with him. He was just the loner gamer boy after all. He managed to escape doing all sorts of preparations last week and might have upset the whole class. It was precisely why he was not hoping for any kind of rescue, or for anyone to ride the boat with him at all.

The shouts of joy and excitement that flowed through the open windows worsened his mood. The situation would have been bearable if Jun allowed him to keep his DS. The fire of anger in his eyes went wilder as he remembered it. He stared at the master of torture once again. It was only then that he realized that he was left in Jun and Toma's company. The others were probably being the good classmates that they were, dutifully fulfilling their designated roles, tracking unsuspecting students on their list. Considering his current state, he was willing to be their class slave even if it meant never-ending chasing. Toma was still, after all, holding onto him.

“Could you at least tell your minion to loosen his grip? My bones are about to break already!”

“Uh-uh. You might try to get away.” Jun eyed him warily.

“This is where the handcuffs are useful.” Nino chided, only to be ignored.

No menacing stare would work on Jun, he was the lord of it after all. He decided that it was best to change strategies, and directed his ferocious glares at his captor instead, “Aren’t you the least bit scared of what I’ll do to you after this?” It was an empty threat but no harm in trying, he has a name and reputation to back him up, prince of mischief.

Nino smiled for the first time that day, thoroughly amused with Toma's reply. “I’m sorry Ninomiya-san, but I value my life. I've already reached the 'blunder quota'. I'll survive your anger but I'd be blessed to live a day more should I incur Matsumoto-sama's wrath.” He wasn’t surprised with the statement. Jun may be groovy and kind, but he would not let mistakes go unpunished - a smack on the head with his rings on. He couldn’t possibly win over that. He glanced mockingly at Jun, who failed feigning being offended. That little smirk on Jun’s face meant that he regarded Toma’s statement as a compliment.

He realized that his situation was far worse than he initially thought. Toma was usually unaffected with Jun's bouts of anger, one of the benefits of being the childhood friend. Nino could only conclude that Toma had made some horrible, horrible slip up to be under control like this.

“If only you lent a hand in setting up the booth, I might have spared you some mercy. Say this counts as your class participation,” Jun derisively stated as he left for the waiting area.

“So all this is revenge for last week? I’ll watch the booth for the next two days if you stop doing this!” Nino shouted at Jun’s retreating back, but he was dismissed with a wave.

A/N:
I realized that nothing really happened, and I'd like to apologize for that. I don't know how to cut this. Hihi.
Also, I've already finished writing this fic, but I'm fixing things a bit. You can expect 5 days interval between chapters.

Marriage booth idea was from my high school days. Actually this one's a merge between the jail booth and the marriage both. Did you have something similar and how did you do yours?
Jun is just so cute, isn't he?
