Wow, it actually makes me feel queasy to imagine people thinking of Dean that way, and you lay it out realistically here, the way people would talk. Great job because, really, I want to tell them how much Dean is not that guy--and neither is Sam.
There's something very persuasive about a newspaper item that says someone's guilty. Even though these people knew Sam, there's enough missing information that I think they're willing to believe a lot (and at the same time, try not to).
Oh man. *shivers* Cool outside POV. I've wondered so often about Sam's old Stanford friends, what they must have been thinking at various points, and this was a cool answer to that question.
