Here you go, you slave-driving bunch of people. Sick!Sam. But you know...it's mostly still about Dean.
Hell, it's ALL about Dean.
The RCA dog Nipper, the ship on top of the old D&H railroad building, and the U-Haul truck are all real. If you Google "Nipper Albany," you can see a picture of him. Ditto with "D&H building ship Albany."

Poor boys. And John and Jim are very believable in this.

I just - sometimes when I find an author I like, especially if I have some time on my hands, I have to read like, practically their whole backlog.
So, it's not you know, personal.
Well, I guess it is.
But I hope not in a scary way!

Anyway, great story, I liked Dean sitting there trying to figure out how people knew what do when someone was sick, especially when he wondered what Jessica must've done when Sam was sick. Nice work!

There are so many rich layers here, it's simply perfect.
I do hope you know that I'm looking forward to November's ChiCon almost as much for the opportunity to meet you, as I am the chance to see "the boys," right? I'm looking for my QL novel (it's packed with all the other books that were never unpacked when I moved) and I'm hoping maybe I can get it autographed while I'm there!?!

p.s. I've got to extend my appreciation, and say that I'm more than a little humbled that you remembered that I have a birthday coming up. I've had so many instances of folks forgetting my birthday (my father, best friend, and all but one person at my large corporate office, and that was just last year!) that I've sorta' gotten used to the idea that people don't/won't remember. Oh, my sister always remembers, and 1 or 2 other good friends, but not a lot, so its pretty special to me. Thank you.

And I'm more than happy to remember your birthday! Now that Christmas is so ridiculously over-commercialized, I like remembering individual people on THEIR special day. Pfffft to your relatives and friends for forgetting. BAD family! BAD friends! Shame on them. (My brother likes to say, "I don't celebrate birthdays," and I tell him, "Yeah, but *I* do." When he shows up for dinner and doesn't even say "Happy Birthday.")

I hurt for Dean too at the end as he watches the family wistfully and wonders what if...you know that's gotta go through his mind at times, and it tears my heart out for him. Our tragic hero.
My absolute favorite line?
“Why is it,” he sighed, “that when you’re sick, you’re helpless, and when I’m sick, you’re helpless?”
Hee! I can just picture Sam's face when he said that! Priceless!

My cousin BADLY wanted to take Nipper home as a little boy. It's still a joke in our family. He ended up naming their cat Nipper.
