Wow, I really love John's internal monologue here, very raw and hurting. I love his clear separation between the boy's different voices. ♥

The only problem I have with the resolution is, that John couldn't have been the one to give Joshua the tip with the faith healer, since we see in the episode that Dean comes back to the motel right after Sam made that phone call and since he says to Dean they'll go and see a specialist right there and then, he must already have known about Roy when he called John.

Still, heartbreaking piece!

I always figured John was pretty tuned in, both to the hunter community and to his boys. When Sam started calling around for help, somebody would have let John know his boy was hurt. Sam's call wasn't news.

I can rationalize anything.

Of course, my rationalization doesn't fit Carol's story's timeline, but watch me handwave that.

Heh, maybe. Though in this fic that's not hinted at. I just see no reason to rationalise John's behaviour, try to find excuses for him. Plus what bothers me most in the end is that he never once contacted his sons, who needed him, needed a father's reassurance. No matter if he or if he not he pulled strings behind the scenes, he hurt them.

True enough... But I tweaked the timeline just a tiny bit. Literary license and all that. Figuring there might have been a span of time between when Dean shows up at the motel door, and when he sits down to talk with Sam.

I'm glad you enjoyed it other than that bit of time-slippage.
