No, I don't think it has. Dean is... Sam is always a child to Dean. Not in the bad way--not always. In this case, it's about Sam relaxing and getting a break. Dean never thinks about himself, except in regards to "fun moments." Like pie, and the giant slinky, and things like that. He never allows himself to think of the future, because every time he does, it's too good to be true.
(Of course they both get that whole meet-someone-relax-and-fish thing, at Thompson Lake, but that's really beside the point.)
Kind of surprised Dean let them leave without taking at least a small stash!
Also, this is a very vivid image:
Pastor Jim took them to a pumpkin patch once, Sam recalls.
He chose one he could barely wrap his arms around.
Cried when he couldn't lift it.

Glad you enjoyed it! I started with this image of Dean stumbling across those plants and being all "WHOA...!" and it just puttered along from there.

I think in a life like this, when everything's dark and nasty, even a few minutes of peace and quiet can be a welcome relief. That interlude on the porch could be just what they needed - until the next fugly comes along!
