So.  There was a poll.  And you guys voted.  Yes you did.  Trouble is...the Muse, she is a contrary wench.

I need a book, he thought desperately. I need a book, or somebody who knows what the hell they’re talking about.

I snorted with laughter at the "pig after truffles", sounding much like a pig myself.:D

A lovely story for Papa John's very first Father's Day.

Thanks!

This fic came to mind the other day when I took my customary walk after work. Somebody had left that small dresser out on the curb for trash pickup, and as I kept walking I saw Mary retrieving it to repaint for the baby.

I had a little fun throwing John in, completely out of his element - because of the ages JDM and Samantha were when the Pilot was filmed, I think everybody forgets that John and Mary were only 24 during that summer before Dean was born. And that seems *awfully* young.

Your Muse does good work. Poor Mary. Morning sickness sucks. All I could eat my first trimester were crackers from MREs. I love John's friends just telling him to do whatever she says. Good advice. And I love how sweet John is and how he would do anything for her.

The "do whatever she wants" actually came from my boss, but it seems like good, universal advice. :) And poor you, eating only crackers!

The Muse thanks you for your sweet compliment. :)

I like this early John. So out of his element. Reminds me of a couple other first time fathers. At least he's smart enough to listen to his friends advice.

I like Mary, too. Poor, baby. She knows she's at the mercy of her hormones. Loved her card.

He could handle the Marines, he could handle Vietnam - but raging maternal hormones? Not so much. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! The Muse felt very schmoopy this weekend.

This was delightful. I love this John. Poor guy. You can see the latent hunter in him even here. Situation seems normal but you can't trust it...do a little digging, gather intel...take a shot at what seems right...sit back and wait for the results.

During my first pregnancy my hubby was trying to order Chinese but not fast enough for me. I ripped the menu out of his hands, accidentally poking myself in the face with my own finger. I burst into tears and accused him of hitting me. Hee. He said he was sorry. Even managed to sound sincere. I think he and John had the same friends.

Thanks for sharing this!

I can picture John the second time around, getting Dean out of the way (and using Dean as an excuse to get himself out of the way). Telling him, "Do what Mommy says. Now, Dean!"

I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but I chuckled at the picture of you poking yourself in the eye and then bursting into tears. I don't have any kids, but I've definitely had those moments! Hormones, they are a nasty, nasty thing.

You're welcome!

Oh, John! LOL, I so felt for the poor man. And Mary! Aw, bless. *HUGS them both*

Wonderful and warm, Carol. Thanks so much for sharing. *snicker-grin*

Those two wacky kids. Only 24, back then. I have the sense that John (as an only child, who then was surrounded by uber-males in the service) would have been totally at sea, trying to anticipate Mary's needs - and the need to stay out of the line of fire. Fighting demons might seem simple by comparison...

You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.
