Title: Always
Fandom: Doctor Who
Summary: Rule one.
It’s the easiest lie to tell.
He tries not to tell too many lies. He evades, sidesteps, avoids in pretty much any way he can, but he tries not to lie. At least not often. Except one; four words, easy and consistent and all the explanation anyone ever needs.
“I'm always all right.”
It took some time, to be able to claim it even as a lie, but the first time it slipped over his tongue with a smile it was only natural, a deflection of worry that he didn’t even think about making.
Somehow, something always gave him away anyway. But the skeptical looks and worried glances he could handle; questions were more of a challenge, and one he was pleased to find a way to chase away.
Now if he only found a way to make it true.
Title: Starfall
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire
Summary: Ashara Dayne's last days. Pre-ADWD 'reveal' (of questionable accuracy).
The Sword of the Morning was dead.
That was how they told her; not “your brother,” not “Arthur.” To them he was a legend. Another marker of a war lost. Lord Eddard Stark, they said, had dealt the killing blow.
She had danced with Ned Stark at Elia’s wedding. He’d been quiet and solemn, but she’d laughed enough for both of them, and thought him handsome.
She went to her window and looked out. There were birds wheeling in slow circles. Ashara let herself close her eyes. The tower was so high, and it was such a long way down.
Title: One Shot
Fandom: Caliban Leandros Series
Summary: That gunshot, from the other end.
Notes: OH MY GOD HOW LONG HAS THIS EVEN BEEN IN MY COMPUTER.
He’d expected it, in a way. Known it would happen, even. But nonetheless, he couldn’t help a certain sickening jolt when Cal whirled from behind the tree, gun in hand, aimed, and fired, with ease and precision that he himself had perfected even with his disdain for the weapon. A jolt where things seemed to slow down and stop and it was just him looking at his brother, trying to find his eyes, hidden behind sunglasses, and seeing nothing but calm determination that he almost, almost admired.
