Iron Man: Armored Adventures - A Pimping Post

So I’ve been meaning to do this for a long time now, (RL being pretty distracting for a change) but now that I haz yay news! (that is the new season 2 of Iron Man: Armored Adventures is finally going to start airing in the US come next week) and I finally have some free(-ish) time, I thought it was a good time to get this done.

The mere existance of this cartoon confirmed my opinion that superhero comics are really just fanfiction that gets published (or in this case, animated). I mean, it's a high school AU for cryin' out loud. You don't get more blatantly fanficcy than that.

As for the actual cartoon, I've been kind of intrigued for a long time, but two things put me off. One, the animation; CG is pretty unattractive. Admittedly I've been doubtful about animation before; I was initially very "meh" about both Super Hero Squad Show and Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but was won over because they are AWESOME.

So that shouldn't really stop me from watching, although a cynical part of me can't help but go "no cartoon you've ever watched before has been CGI". |D

The second problem is really of a practical nature: I have no idea how to get it. XD I'm still computer illiterate (I live on Megaupload links from Tumblr to get my Doctor Who fill). I could buy it, the entire first season is relatively cheap, but question is if it's worth it. *Ponders

LOL, re: 'professional' fanfiction, I once read this great 'literary epic' called the Name Of The Rose by award-winning, best-selling novelist Umberto Eco (whose list of academic accomplishments is longer than my arm) and it turned out to be Sherlock Holmes in the Middle Ages. The freaking protagonist is named 'William of Baskerville'. And then there's the various short stories by Neil Gaiman and all. Professional writing is full of 'fan-fiction' absolutely everywhere, tbh. And well, the Ultimates!verse has Tony's evil(er) long-lost twin brother who always wears white aka Gregory Stark. -_-;

Regarding the CG, I know it can get a little taking use to, but looking at it as a stylistic choice makes it (for me atleast) not a problem anymore. And the voice acting and characterizations are so awesome that it ceases to matter and by then, of course, the strangeness has become charmingly endearing.

I myself watched it through the links collected on anilinkz.com, but I think that watching the season as-it-airs will be easier thanks to

I read Name of the Rose on vacation in Tunisia last summer. I really enjoyed it, but the fact that it was Sherlock Holmes fanfic didn't escape me either. I wasn't surprised at all when we were given an excerpt from a study by several modern philosophers in Philosophy class a couple of months ago about Sherlock Holmes' method of investigation related to epistemology and Umberto Eco was on that list. So yeah, not only is Name of the Rose fanfiction, the author has written fan essays on the most important attribute of the main character in his fandom. :P

Yeah, a lot of published books and TV shows are really fanfiction. And yet, fic is often frowned upon by "real" authors and writers; I think it's more a question of elitism that some disguise as contempt for unoriginality. This gets to me in the superhero genre in particular since the majority of published comics there are in fact fanfiction about characters created decades ago by other authors, some of them dead by now

Whoa, the fan essay thing made the whole book a lot cooler, suddenly! I confess, the thing is still on my to be completed list (it's I think, the only book I own and have not read... -_-;) mainly because I am unable to get into Adso's thought processes. But yeah, the mystery looked cool. Hmm... going back on my list...

LOL, I hear you about the comic book industry. But then, I don't think there is as much stigma attached to fanart or fan-creation in this canon, is there?

Haah, I don't think I've read half the books I own. But then again I own a ridiculous amount of books. Plus stuff borrowed from the library. I really should spend less time watching TV series and read more before I have to return everything... At least the fictional works. Had some history books for fic reference but since it doesn't seem like that fic will get written anyway... 8I

I'm not entirely sure. I've heard of several comics writers saying some not very nice things about fanfiction in particular, but I don't know about the industry as a whole... You'd think they'd be very understanding. I mean, a lot of fic tropes practically originate from comics. Or Star Trek. Possibly both

Note: that doesn't mean I like this development. Actually I've had a couple of angry rants about it on Tumblr already, I can't really muster up much anger anymore. |D
