I've spent the last few hours of my evening going through the journal entries that my fellow students have written. I feel a bit behind, as I've only just found out about this new thing. Mother must have forgotten to inform me of my Hogwarts letter when the Owl Post came on Sunday, and I woke up this morning to find my Hogwarts letter sitting on my desk, along with my books and other student necessities.

Sitting on the top of the pile, was this. A black, leather-bound journal, with a small 'Q' engraved at the top right-hand corner. My first thought was wondering what poor animal was killed to make my fingers smell from touching the binding when I finally put the book down. I've never touched a real cow. Is its fur soft? I don't know anyone who would know the answer to that. And my home doesn't contain quite the books to answer that type of question, either.

Also enclosed in my Hogwarts letter was a Prefect's badge. That was a surprise for me. I wasn't expecting it, at all. My parents haven't said anything, either. I'm the first of my immediate family to be made a Prefect, but I don't think that impresses my parents very much. I think they'd rather that I have been a Quidditch player. Well, I can try out for the team this year, if I really want to. I might, if even just to say that I tried. Of course, knowing my parents, they would only focus on my failure.

But I've enjoyed spending my day by reading through what my schoolmates have had to say. I've learned a lot of things already about people I've wondered about these last few years...if the purpose of all of it was to make people more open towards each other, than more power to the cause. In fact, I'd have to say that this is the most I've ever written at Hogwarts with the thought in mind that people will be seeing it. I surely don't talk this much when I'm at school. The thought contents me a little bit -- but it makes me feel a little uneasy at the same time. We'll have to see how this goes throughout the year.
