since i still have nothing of worth to give you guys, here's this. it's not polished at all as it's actually scene notes for a larger project that may, or may not, see day light. no cut.
closet!travis/gabe, pg.
travis drops the cigarette from his lips and crushes it under his heel, leaning against his front door. "i can't take the jump to be with you, g." gabe stares at their feet and nods, quietly. travis continues, "i couldn't do it for matt. and i can't do it for you. i'm not ready. and you know i'm..." he huffs, searching for the right word. "worried that i'll lose my job."
"so you're just gonna stay in secret for the rest of your life, huh?" gabe looks up and travis frowns. gabe just shakes his head and sighs. "i can't run around in hiding with you, trav. you know i can't do that."
"shit secret keeper, that's why," travis jokes, and gabe looks at him seriously and travis pipes down, looking away awkwardly. maybe now isn't the time for jokes. "i know, gabe."
the silence is awkward. it's the end of something. goodbye love. "goodnight, travis." gabe steps away from travis. "you're gonna be on your own for a really fucken' long time," he laments.
"i'll manage," travis murmurs. "goodnight, g."
"i'll see you at prom," gabe promises, and he turns his back and walks away, hands in his jeans pockets. travis watches his retreating back and leans off the door, waiting until gabe has reached the end of the path before he turns and slots his key into the door, opening it.
the house is empty, but travis wasn't expecting anything else. the dark hallway is unwelcoming and travis almost wants to turn and ask gabe to come back. he twists his head to look over his shoulder. the older man is long, long gone.
travis steps in and closes the door behind himself.
