It had been too long since he felt the company of others of his kind; it had been too long since he was surrounded by those he knew, those he trusted and loved.
Too much time had passed with him trapped in darkness. Too much time had passed with him kept apart, suffering, while the rest went on - blissfully acting as if he was no more.
But now, times had changed.
Now he was reunited with them.
He watched the young one through the flickering light of the fire, trying to figure out precisely what thoughts were running through his little brother’s mind, the similarity in the scene bringing back the memory of their more … recent reunion. But he had to admit, though, that with this one, it was difficult.
He did not know Castiel well.
But the other - the other one he did know. He knew better than any other creature in existence, and it was his companionship that the Morningstar had desired most after all this time.
He smiled as he grabbed the face of the one who held his attention, his hand stroking the bruised skin of the tortured vessel. If he could have found it in him to care for the human shell that his brother wore, Lucifer might have considered the current condition and look of the body a shame.
Dean Winchester had, at one time, been considered one of his Father’s beautiful creations, after all.
But such sentiments had been removed from him, even if he had desired cultivating them at one point. He was beyond it now, and he felt nothing as he stared at the eldest Winchester.
He felt only when the eyes blinked open and Lucifer was able to see Michael looking back at him.
Lucifer smiled. “Michael,” he said, his hand still positioned on the side of Michael’s face, holding it in the same way the elder archangel had done in the past.
“I’ve missed you, brother,” whispered the Morningstar, leaning down to place his lips on Michael’s forehead in a light kiss. He leaned back and looked his older brother - his companion - directly in the eyes, glad to see a smile matching his own on Michael’s face.
“Welcome home.”
