This is not a perfect story. It has a lot of flaws, most notably occasional poor characterization of anyone not named Gai or Lee (that being said, the characterization of Gai and Lee are excellent), and also characters often seem to do things just to further the plot along, plus some cliche and annoying romance. On the other hand, it's got a truly impressive plot deviation from canon while still following the core of the canon plot (amusingly it also has a filler arc which goes down in quality just like filler arcs always do *L*), and some really awesome match ups with accompanying fight scenes. I can forgive a lot for being able to read about Kakashi and Gai double-teaming Orochimaru. And I'm very impressed at how the author doesn't shy away from killing characters.
