2 drabbles, for the 2-part episode "What's My Line"
For
buffy_love's challenge of assigning members episodes as a focus of Buffy (the character) centric drabbles.
I.
Career week - another excuse for the adults to tell the high school kids what they should do with their lives.
Willow’s perfect for a top secret software development company.
Xander wowed the standardized test analysts with his incredible aptitude for guarding criminals.
Cordelia’s destined for - well, actually, she didn’t really care to take note of Cordelia’s results.
And Buffy? Buffy’s cut out for cop-work. Tracking down, and probably occasionally beating down, evil-doers. Who’d have thought?
Okay, so she’s perfect for it. But she still thinks things could have turned out differently if she’d had a choice in her after-school activities.
II.
She’s the slayer. Emphasis on the, meaning “only.” Or so the books say. As much as Giles makes her want to believe in them, she’s beginning to think the Watchers aren’t as all-knowing as they think they are.
It should be a relief. The burden can be shared now. But as much as she complains, it’s a destiny she’s come to think of as hers alone. She’s used to being the Chosen One. She can’t be sure who she is anymore, if not that.
Still, she can’t help noticing that Kendra fits the part far better than she ever has.
