She watched from the alley as incredible pain flashed across his face. Her heart ached in sympathy, but knew it was part of the process. As the rain pounded down on him, he felt something he hadn't in over two centuries. A heartbeat. And it was his. She knew the moment he realized what was happening. He smiled, but then lost it a moment later because the woman he loved wasn't there to share this moment with him. He closed his eye as his tears mixed with the rain pouring down upon him.
In that moment, she knew it was time to make her presence known. She quickly closed the distance between them and kneeled down beside him. "Angel," she whispered softly.
His eyes snapped open at her voice, a voice he would recognize anywhere. "Cordy?" he asked in disbelief.
Cordy stroked the side of his face tenderly. "It's me, Angel."
He groaned in pain as he sat up and pulled her into his arms. "But how?"
"The Powers sent me home. For good," she told him, answering his unspoken question. "They thought it was time we got our happily ever after."
Tears slid down his face again, but these were not filled with the sadness she'd seen before. These tears were joyful. They matched the ones falling from her own eyes. The look in his eyes told her more than his words ever would, but he told her anyway. "I love you so much, Cordy."
Cordy smiled tenderly. "I love you, too. So very much. You make life worth living." She softly brushed her lips across Angel's in a gentle kiss. It was filled with promise and hope. Two things Angel thought he'd lost forever, but had been returned to him in the form of the dark-haired beauty in his arms.
