As the nurse placed the infant in his arms, Castle wondered if he was up to the job. He knew how to parent girls, but boys were another matter entirely. Boys grew up to be husbands and fathers. He paused. What he meant was boys grew up to be protectors.
"Sexist," he heard his wife's voice in his head. He just grinned.
Looking down at Nicholas, he felt a tinge of fear, but also more happiness than he had ever known.
He glanced over at Kate. She smiled at him knowingly, a tender look in her eyes. Life was good.
