clear blue eyes
met dark ones
from across the room

watching her
he couldn't help
but smile

he thinks
about all the years
he's spent by her side

seven years
fighting the monsters
of this city

seven years
loving her from afar
and being her friend

he remembered
the day
all that changed

she had entered a building
to save a child
but she had been ambushed

...and he had almost lost her

as she lay in the hospital fighting for her life
he had held her hand
and told her he loved her

while he had thought
she hadn't heard him
she had heard every word

when she woke two weeks later
she took his hand
and told of a love she had kept hidden

...for seven long years

now he walks up behind her
and wraps his arms around her
he kisses her cheek and whispers his love in her ear

as she turns and looks deep into his eyes
he once again feels blessed
to be able to call this woman

...his wife
