"I'm scared," he whispered to no one in particular. He hadn't even realized he'd spoken out loud.
Cordy sat down beside him. "Scared of what, Angel?" she asked softly.
Realizing he had indeed spoken aloud, he bowed his head. "Of losing you," he admitted. "I've lived over 250 years, but I didn't truly live until you came into my life, until you told me you loved me."
She took his hand in hers. "Angel, I'm not going anywhere. The Powers gave me eternal life so that we could be together forever, so that we could continue fighting the evil of the world side by side. And that's where I'll be. By your side. Forever."
"Promise?"
"There's no place I'd rather be."
A small smile graced his handsome face for the first time since he'd uttered those two words. "I love you, Cordy."
Cordy squeezed his hand. "I love you, too, Angel. And nothing will ever change that. You are my life."
Angel gently brushed his lips across hers in a sweet kiss, both forgetting about the rest of the world for just a moment.
