“You’re a really good kisser.”
Danny’s pretty sure CJ’s drunk out of her mind. Yeah. He’d like to say that he managed to come to that conclusion by exercising his expert observational skills, honed by all his years working the Washington beat, but that’d be a lie. A really big lie.
See, in truth, he knows she’s drunk off her ass the second he sees her here, cause a classy gal like CJ would never in a million years be in a dump like this unless she’d already been six sheets to the wind when she’d passed it on her way home from a nicer, more upscale kind of bar.
So the fact that she’d jumped up from her barstool the second she spotted him, then latched her mouth over his like they were long-term lovers only served as a teeny, tiny confirmation of her state.
Also, her tongue’s practically oozing crème de menthe as it sweeps around counting his teeth, so there’s that, too.
And yeah. He’s a good guy. He knows that he’s taking advantage of CJ, and he feels bad about that, except he doesn’t, cause she’s no slouch at kissing, either. Besides, she started it. Not a good reason, but at the moment, it’s good enough for him.
Which is why, instead of calmly escorting CJ home by the elbow, Danny just grins, whispers ‘Thanks,’ and goes right back to letting her find out how many fillings he’s got.
It's possible he might be a little plastered, too.
