Summary: David surprises Kelly with breakfast.

Kelly finally had a Saturday off and she planned to sleep in. That was until she heard a loud noise come from somewhere inside her house that startled her from her peaceful slumber. She opened her eyes but didn't budge from the warm spot in her bed that she occupied. She turned her head to the right to check the clock, 9:32. She hadn't slept that long in awhile but she still didn't consider it "sleeping in." Kelly heard another noise, along with a muffled voice. She sat up, turned her body, rested her feet on the floor and rubbed both her eyes one at a time. She stood up and made her way out of her bedroom.

Kelly carefully walked down the hall to the stairs, holding the railing as she slowly walked down them. When she reached the bottom, she shook her head a little, letting the rest of the weariness release from her body. The noises got louder as she got closer to the kitchen. She really didn't know who could possibly be in her home. When she went to bed the night before, she was all alone in the house. She didn't think it was a burglar. Why would they be in the kitchen?! Then she heard the distinct voice of a man. A man who shouldn't be in Texas. He should be in a bus somewhere traveling down a crowed highway to a different city. But she was sure it was him, unless she was dreaming.

Kelly finally was in the doorway of the open kitchen and sure enough it was him. David’s back was facing Kelly. He was attempting to make breakfast. Maybe she really was dreaming. Even though his last name was Cook, he didn't live up to his namesake. But then she heard another voice. She looked around until she realized the mystery voice was coming from David's phone and it was his mom on the other line giving him step by step directions for the homemade waffles he was making. Kelly couldn't help but smile. David let out a couple cuss words when he could smell the contents inside the waffle maker burning. Of course his mom heard and told him to watch his language. He apologized. His mom informed her son that she had to get going and to not burn Kelly's house down. David replied with a "haha" and Kelly quietly chuckled to herself.

David took the burnt waffles out of the maker and filled it up with more batter. He took a couple steps to his left until he was directly in front of the stove. There were already two frying pans on two separate burners and he turned them both on. Once they both heated up, he cracked a couple eggs in one and placed a few pieces of bacon in the other. Kelly was enjoying watching her boyfriend multitask and attempt the whole cooking thing, still oblivious to the fact that she was standing in the doorway with her arms folded watching his every move.

David walked over to the waffle maker and blurted out a "score" when he opened it up and the banana waffles were pretty perfect. He took them out and placed them on a plate, which he then placed on a serving tray. He went back over to the stove and stirred the scrambled eggs a bit. He flipped the pieces of bacon, sputtering curse after curse when the bacon splattered grease all over his hand. Kelly couldn't help but quietly laugh; it was usually her getting splashed with bacon grease. He grabbed the tray that he had set on the counter and brought it with him to the stove. He turned off both burners and then scraped the eggs out of the pan onto the plate that contained the waffles. He did the same with the bacon, making sure nothing touched each other. He walked over to the fridge and grabbed the carton of orange juice and poured a glass which he set on the tray. He put the juice back. He grabbed the bottle of syrup that was on the counter, placed it on the tray and picked up the tray. Kelly couldn't let David see her, so she quickly but quietly made her way back to the stairs and hurried up back to her room. She hopped into bed, caught her breath and pretended to be asleep. About a minute had passed before David entered the room. She heard him set the tray on the dresser before he made his way towards her. He placed a tender kiss on her head as she opened her eyes.

"Morning sunshine," he said to her in a whisper.

She smiled at him. "What are you doing here?!" she asked as he walked over to the breakfast tray.

"I made you breakfast," he replied, picking up the tray and walked towards her.

Kelly sat up. "But aren't you supposed to be on your bus?!"

David placed the tray in front of Kelly. "We have the day off."

"Oh," is the only thing she could say before she dug into the food on her plate. "You made this all yourself?!"

"Of course."

"Are you sure your mom didn't help you?! Because this is actually really good."

David gasped and made a shocked face. She laughed and also laughed on the inside knowing how oblivious David was to the fact she knew his mom had "helped" him make the delicious banana waffles she was devouring.

"My last name is Cook after all," he joked.

He was now sitting beside her watching her eat when his stomach growled. Kelly laughed as she handed him a piece of bacon which he pretty much inhaled.

Kelly loved David and his little surprises. She had been burned by love more times than she could count but she knew that wasn't going to happen this time around. The love that they shared was the real deal. Only someone madly in love would sacrifice being burned by bacon early in the morning on their day off; well at least Kelly thought so anyway.
