That's why it's listed as Sherlock Holmes/Sherlock and Sherlock (Part of Sherlock Holmes/Sherlock fandom)/Sherlock Holmes on the Fandoms page.

If it helps, the rule of thumb is based on First Readers: if a reader who knows the main canon knows enough to read another media property's canon without having experienced it directly, then it's bundled in. So if you've read the Doyle books, you can handle fic for a Jeremy Brett movie.

Alternately, Smallville and Superman are not the same because Smallville took so many liberties with the classic Superman canon a reader who knows the DC verse would be all 'who are Chloe and Pete and why isn't Lois Lane a reporter at the Daily Planet?' /confuzzlement/
