"So, I've been thinking," Katy mused on her way into the local Caribou with Kris.
"Yeah? What about?" he asked, smiling. He threaded his fingers through hers.
"I want my latte without foam," she said decidedly, tipping her chin.
"You do."
"Yes."
"Why not just get coffee, or tea, or something else?" he asked, perplexed.
"Because I like the taste of a latte. I just don't like the foam. It's annoying for girls to get those little moustaches. And besides, it doesn't taste good."
Kris stared at her. "You have thought way too much about this. Besides I don't think they can make it without. I think it comes with the beverage."
"Well, I'm gonna ask," Katy decided, marching up to the counter, while Kris hung back, staring at the trivia question of the day.
"Excuse me?" she asked the barista whose nametag said Adam.
"Hi. How can I help you?"
"Can I get a latte without the foam? Or does it come with?" Katy asked seriously.
"Uh..." Adam stalled. "Let me check on that." Just his luck that his first day working here a cute blonde girl and her cuter boyfriend would walk in and she'd ask for a damn no-foam latte. He hated special orders with a passion. Half of this. Double that. None of this.
Just order off the damn menu. Really. How hard was it?
"Uh..." Boyfriend called uncertainly as Adam kept himself occupied waiting for the person working the window to get done with the order they were taking, and answer his millionth stupid question of the day.
"Yes?" Adam asked, his smile in place again.
"Could I get a coffee?" Kris asked, scratching his head.
"What size would you like?" Adam asked, trying not to be taken by the guy's brown eyes that looked so sincere Adam could drown in them.
"Regular, I guess? Small? What's normal?" he asked, looking endearingly confused.
"Well, how much caffeine do you want?" Adam asked, smiling.
"Not too much," Kris allowed.
"Adam?" No-Foam called. "If you can't do the latte without, that's fine. I just wondered if it was possible. Make it as foamy as you want."
Adam smiled.
His day was starting to look up after all.
