Cloud Catching
"This is ridiculous," Kanda said. Grumpy, but not grumpy enough to sit up.
Lavi grinned. "I know." He scooted over so his head was resting on Kanda's stomach and opened his eyes again. The air smelled like gardenia and whatever meat Komui had forgotten about and left on the grill. "That one looks like Cross," he said, staring up at a cloud in the sky. It didn't, of course, but Kanda didn't need to know that.
"Which one?" A little less grumpy, but still begrudging.
"That one," Lavi said. He grabbed Kanda's hand with one of his and wiggled one of the fingers straight, pointing up at the sky. Kanda was looking up intently. He looked so much more relaxed than usual. Even his hair was spread across the ground haphazardly, dark blue contrasting with the short green grass. There was an ant crawling across his forehead, and he hadn't noticed. Lavi grinned again, and meant it this time. He brought Kanda's hand to his lips and pressed a kiss against the back of it, rubbed his nose on the area between Kanda's forefinger and thumb. Kanda's stomach moved slowly with his breaths, up and down and up and down steadily and deeply, and Lavi turned his head a bit and listened.
"This is ridiculous," Kanda said. His voice was soft.
"I know," Lavi said.
