Summary: Evelyn had never even thought about owning his own home.
Evelyn stared at the paperwork in his hands, pages of information and conditions and things he'd never even thought about before. He'd signed half a dozen leases, in three different cities, but this was something different.
He'd never owned anything he couldn't carry. A childhood spent in a tiny apartment in the Lower City hadn't exactly prepared him for permanence.
His hand hesitated above the dotted line, pen wavering. He could think of a thousand things he'd committed to that would have made other people falter-moving across the country to train, competing against people with twice as much experience, retiring even though he could still win-but he'd never thought he'd commit to buying his own home.
"Evie?" Simon was smiling at him, a small concerned crease between his eyebrows. "You ready?"
Evelyn smiled back and signed with a flourish.
"Now I am."
