This is just gorgeous. Your characterization is perfect and your language is, too. I really enjoy stories about that fleeting period when everything was right, everything was good for the two of them and you've just created it wonderfully here!

I'm trying to pick out highlights, but, really, every single bit of this is magical, the surprising mellowness and calm between them, Richard's acceptance that it won't last forever and determination to savor it to the fullest, and Alec being almost - almost - loving.
