Fic for Aug 5th... take two!
I'm sorry I didn't notice this hadn't posted right!! :( I set Semagic up to post it, but I think I did something wrong... anywho, here you go! My first Naruto fic ever, so it's probably horrid. ^_^;;
TITLE: Layered Souls
FANDOM: Naruto
LENGTH: Drabble (100 words)
MOOD/RAITING: Sad/PG
TIMELINE: After fox demon attack, prior to episode 1.
SUMMARY: It wasn't as if they hadn't tried...
The moonlight traced the contours of the sleeping child and she stepped forward, determined. It was easy to forget, if you did your best not to look, that something so small could hold such evil. She brushed back a lock of hair and the child yipped softly in his sleep, nuzzling her hand. In spite of her resolve, she shuddered. It was there. Waiting.
She made her apologies to the Third Hokage and left. She wasn't the first to refuse nor, he feared, the last. Someone had to care for the child that wasn't-- couldn't ever be just a child.
