Summary: It's obvious, I think you're photogenic

Koki really enjoyed spending his Saturday mornings with his camera at the cafe around the corner from his flat. Not only was the coffee delicious, but his usual waiter was worth coming back to see, even though they'd never exchanged more than brief words over orders and greetings. The waiter had slightly feminine features, but Koki knew the man was in no way feminine. Beneath the uniform, Koki could see the subtle outlines of the muscles in his arms. He grabbed his camera, leaning back in his chair. Koki pressed his eye to the view-finder zooming in towards where his waiter stood at another table, he tapped the button and the camera went off with a quiet click.

“Excuse me, sir. I really don’t think you should be taking pictures here.” Koki looked up when he heard the voice. “The other customers may feel that it's an invasion of their privacy, for you to keep taking pictures like that.”

“Oh. I’m sorry.” Koki replied, placing his camera back onto the table. “It’s for an art project at school. I didn’t think anyone would mind.”

“Well we haven’t had any complaints yet, this is just a precaution.”

“Ah. Is there a manager I can speak to?” Koki asked, tapping his fingers against the tabletop. “I really need these pictures for school. It’s a really large project.”

“I am the manager, sir.”

“Oh. Well can I have your permission to take pictures here?” Koki asked, sitting up straighter in his chair.

Koki bit his lip, nervously waiting for the answer. He gripped his camera, eyes flicking from the man before him over to where his waiter stood; staring over at him curiously. Koki smiled, instantly frowning when the other looked away.

“Sir?”

“Huh? Oh. I’m sorry I was distracted,” Koki replied, chuckling at himself.

“I said that if it’s okay with the other customers, I don’t mind.” Koki perked up, fingers relaxing against the camera. “If I hear one complaint however, you’ll need to stop immediately.”

“Of course! Thank you very much.” Koki said, bowing his head towards the manager. “Once I finish this school project I won’t take pictures inside anymore.”

“It’s fine, as long as nobody complains.”

“Yes sir.” Koki replied, watching as the manager walked away.

“Um. Koki?” Koki smiled at the man standing at the end of his table, empty black tray held against his chest.

“Oh. Hey Ueda.” Koki said, tapping his fingers against the tabletop again.

“What was my manager doing over here?”

“He was just asking me what I thought about your service,” Koki replied, pulling his camera into his lap and out of Ueda’s view.

“Ah. I see.” Ueda murmured, eyes downcast.

“So did you want to bring me a refill of coffee, or ask about your boss and his interaction with me.” Koki said, grinning at the shocked look that crossed Ueda’s face.

“Sorry, ah. I’ll be right back.”

Koki chuckled quietly, pulling the camera back to his face. He adjusted the view finder to zoom in on where Ueda stood at the counter, and pressed the button. The camera quietly captured Ueda as he stared at the dark liquid swirling into the white cup. Koki smiled and tapped the button again, this time capturing Ueda as he laughed at one of the other workers. Koki checked the picture he had just taken, staring fondly at the smile on Ueda’s face.

“Here you go, sorry about the wait.” Ueda said quietly, placing the full cup in front of Koki.

“Thanks.” Koki said, placing his camera back in his lap.

“Why do you always put your camera in your lap, or behind you when I come over?” Ueda asked, holding his empty black tray against his side.

“Just a habit, I guess.” He replied smiling, fingers tightening around the top of his camera.

“Can I see what’s on there? I’m curious about what kinds of pictures you take.” Ueda said, the smile that Koki loved seeing present on his face.

“There’s nothing interesting on here, trust me.” Koki spoke slowly, pressing the camera against himself.

“Come on, just let me see.” Ueda said, reaching out to the camera. “I’ve never met a photography student before so I’m curious.”

“There’s nothing on it.” Koki replied quickly.

“Then why are you always carrying it with you?” Ueda asked, looking at the camera that Koki was clutching tightly. “Please?”

Koki held his camera against his chest, as Ueda continued staring at him. “I would love to, but I have a class. I need to go.” Koki said quickly, placing the proper number of bills on the table. Then he got out of the cafe as fast as he could.

--

Koki stood in the dark room in his classroom, developing the recent pictures he had taken and placing the pictures into a folder once they were dry. He jumped and covered all the pictures when the door opened.

“Oh! I’m sorry, the light wasn’t on outside of the door, so I didn’t think anyone was in here.”

“It’s fine, Shige. I think that light’s broken anyway,” Koki replied, continuing to keep his pictures covered.

“They really should fix it. Is it okay if I start developing my pictures?” Shige asked, holding up two rolls of film.

“The dark room is big enough for both of us,” Koki said quietly. “Can you please shut the door, the light’s going to ruin my pictures.”

“Oh! I’m so sorry.” Shige shut the door quickly, and walked over to an empty station near Koki. “I didn’t ruin any of your pictures when I came in, did I?” Shige asked.

“No. I managed to cover them in time. It’s fine.” Koki said, getting back to work on his pictures.

--

“So who is this guy that you keep taking pictures of? He doesn’t go to school with us.”

“No, Nakamaru. He doesn’t.” Koki replied, staring at the pictures scattered around his kitchen table.

“Who is he then?” Nakamaru asked, picking up a picture to look at it.

“He’s a waiter at this cafe that I frequently go to.” Koki mumbled, pushing a few pictures to the side.

“Does he know you’re taking pictures of him?”

“No. I plan to invite him to the exhibit and reveal myself to him then.” Koki said, moving pictures around on the table.

“You’d better be careful with that. You could go to jail.” Nakamaru said, laughing at the glare Koki shot in his direction.

“You’re a pervert. I think you’ve been hanging out with Akanishi and his group for too long.” Koki said, picking up one of his pictures.

“I have to hang out with them. I’m helping Jin bring up his Calculus grade.” Nakamaru replied, looking down at the table.

“Yeah. I’m sure you are.” Koki mumbled. “So how long did it take before you climbed into bed with him?”

Nakamaru spluttered indignantly, hands flailing as his face began to turn red.

“You know. Under the pretense of studying.”

“I.. I do not have to answer that.”

“Ah. Means you fell into bed with him the moment you were alone,” Koki said, smiling

“That is not what I meant! Not at all! Oh god, Koki,” Nakamaru wailed, covering his face.

“I know how you are when you like someone, and I also know how Akanishi is.” Koki said. “Akanishi’s known for being kind of a whore.”

“So when do you plan on telling that waiter that you like him?” Nakamaru asked, ducking as Koki threw a shoe at him.

“Shut up, Nakamaru.” Koki snapped. “Help me pick out the best pictures. I can only use a few of them for the exhibit.”

“Fine, but you’re paying for dinner.”

--

The next day, Koki leant against the counter, watching as Ueda moved around behind it. He had finally gained enough courage to become better friends with the waiter. He reprimanded himself silently, it took him a few months of being a frequent customer before he could even start a conversation.

“Hey. You remember a few weeks ago when you said you wanted to see what was on my camera?” Koki asked.

“Um. Yes.” Ueda replied as he placed glasses onto his tray. “You told me there wasn’t anything on it, and then ran out of here.”

“I really had to get to class. I was almost late!” Koki exclaimed, eyes wide.

“Really?” Ueda asked, one eyebrow raised.

“Okay, no. I just didn’t want you to see my pictures.” Koki mumbled. “It wasn’t the right time.”

“I see.” Ueda grabbed his tray and walked around the counter behind Koki. “Excuse me for a moment.”

Koki reached into the pocket of his jacket, pulling out a folded slip of paper. He placed it onto the counter, and pushed it towards Ueda when he walked back behind the counter.

“If you come by tonight. You’ll see what I was hiding on my camera.” Koki said, tapping his camera and grinning.

“Okay. I’ll try to make it.” Ueda replied, slipping the paper into his own pocket, and filling his tray with drinks again. “Now order something or get out. I have to work.”

“I have a class, I just wanted to talk to you a bit and invite you!” Koki said, pushing himself away from the counter and walking out of the cafe.

--

Koki stood nervously next to his display later that night, watching the doors in case Ueda came in. Koki’s heart began to race when Ueda did walk in. He gasped quietly, not used to seeing Ueda in anything but his work uniform. Tonight Ueda wore jeans with rips above the knees, and a black shirt with glittered words written on it. He glanced from Ueda towards his display, worried about the reaction Ueda would have when he saw the pictures.

He smiled when Ueda stopped at his display. He could see the curiosity in Ueda’s eyes, as he looked at the pictures.

“Koki, what is this.” Ueda asked, gesturing at the pictures.

“My school project!” Koki said excitedly, grinning so hard that his jaw was beginning to hurt.

“Why is it just pictures of me?”

“The project was to find something that we found extraordinary, or had special meaning to us.”

“Okay, but why did you choose me?” Ueda asked, eyes wide as he continued to look at the many pictures of him from the cafe.

“Because I found you to be extraordinary.”

“What? Why me? I’m just normal.”

“You’re more than just normal. There’s something amazing about you, the way you interact with those around you.” Koki began, looking over at his pictures. “You always have a vacant look on your face when you’re alone. Whenever you smile, it brightens up the room.”

Koki glanced up at Ueda, waiting for a response of some kind. When Ueda made no sound, Koki took a deep breath. “The first time I came to that cafe, you smiled at me.” He murmured. “I think that was when I fell in love with you.”

“Koki...” Ueda murmured, reaching out to grasp Koki’s hand in his own. “Why didn’t you say something before?”

“I was afraid you wouldn’t be my waiter anymore. If you knew that I liked you and used you as the model for my assignment.” Koki replied, squeezing Ueda’s hand.

“Well that does seem quite stalkerish.” Ueda laughed.

“Its not my fault you’re so photogenic.” Koki replied, winking. “So would it be okay to kiss you now?”

“I was going to let you, but then you asked so I don’t think I sh--” Ueda’s words were cut off, as Koki pulled him closer. Pressing his lips against Ueda’s, tightening his hold on Ueda’s hand.

“Your lips are soft.” Koki murmured once he pulled back from Ueda. “It makes me want to kiss you all the time.”

“I’m not stopping you.” Ueda replied, grinning.

--

Koki walked back into the cafe a week later, camera slung around his neck. He went to his usual table in the far back. He placed the camera next to him, looking up in time to see Ueda behind the counter. Koki smiled and waved. Pulling the camera up to his face, and snapping a picture as Ueda grinned at him from behind the counter.

He went to his usual table in the back, putting his camera on the table next to him. The smile never leaving his face. Koki couldn’t help but snap a quick picture of Ueda as he walked towards him.

“Koki. Stop taking pictures all the time.” Ueda said, placing Koki’s usual cup of coffee on the table next to him.

“Why? Its not my fault you’re photogenic.” Koki replied, sticking his camera in Ueda’s face as he took another picture.

“Seriously! Stop it. You’re going to get me in trouble.” Ueda laughed, pushing the camera out of his face.

“I will if I can have a kiss first.” Koki said, lifting his camera back up as a threat.

Ueda rolled his eyes, but leant towards Koki anyway. Koki grabbed onto Ueda’s collar and pulled him down the rest of the way, pressing their lips together. Koki’s heart began to race, and he smiled into the kiss.

“Every kiss with you, feels like the first.” Koki murmured, once they separated. Ueda didn’t respond, he smiled and pressed his lips to Koki’s forehead.

“I have to get back to work.” Ueda said quietly, but he made no effort to move away from Koki. “I’ll come back to check on you in a little bit.”

“Alright. Take your time.” Koki said picking up his camera again. “I’ll just be here taking pictures of my favorite model.” Koki laughed as Ueda rolled his eyes and walked away. The moment Ueda was behind the counter, filling up someone else’s cup. Koki began taking pictures, ignoring the glares Ueda sent his direction. He wasn’t really upset about the pictures. Koki would make it up to him later.
