”The Devil You Know” takes up where ”Comfort To The Enemy” ended. Sam, Dean and Castiel are still on the road in their ”borrowed” car, but enemies are closing in on them. Ifrins, creatures from down below, have tracked them and while the trio manage to defeat one, others are getting closer. But while the ifrins may seem terrifying, the power behind them is even more so and everything is not what it seems.

Dean and Sam are still trying to come to terms with the events that transpired in the convent when Lucifer was set free, but as the brothers bicker, Castiel is plucked from their midst and punished for his rebellion. Dean and Sam race to find him, but it's a race not only against time, but also obstacles like Sam detoxifying and the mistrust that is festering between the brothers. When they finally find Castiel, they realise that their troubles have only just begun and they must now use whatever strength they have left to hide from enemies far more powerful than themselves and with a useless and dying angel clinging to life in the backseat.

Once again sea_wren takes command of the English language and leaves us with a story that is very hard to put down until you've read the last word. The imagery is skillfully drawn in a way that makes it look effortless and the pacing is perfect. Her characterizations are spot-on and she never skates over the emotional fall-out of the situations our friends are forced through but deals with them in a realistic and heart-wrenching manner. If you enjoyed ”Comfort to the Enemy”, ”The Devil You Know” will not dissappoint.
