He's Just Not That Into You 1/12popslashrevivalDecember 31 2007, 02:15:56 UTC
(I tried to write a ficlet, but I am too longwinded! The rest is/will be on my journal.)
1. He’s Just Not That Into You If He’s Not Asking You Out
The thing about AJ is that he’s not gay. Chris knows this. Which is why he doesn’t act on the fact that he wants to jump AJ’s bones. Actually, which is why he hasn’t acted on the fact that he’s wanted to jump AJ’s bones for the last decade or more.
So, the fact that dear, solid, sweet JC is doing the studio thing with AJ is really not an excuse for Chris to wander there and conveniently find himself in the presence of one sexy, absolutely, one hundred percent not gay AJ. But the fact is Chris is a glutton for punishment.
Which is why he flashes a smile at the girl at the front desk with the twelve piercings and what looks like a partridge on her head and blazes his way back into the studio where JC and AJ have holed up, clutching three jumbo-sized , triple-shot mocha espressos. JC’s has a pink lid on it because it’s made with skim milk and really Chris thinks that’s entirely appropriate.
He opens the door in the middle of AJ belting out an incredible riff that stops Chris in his tracks and makes him stare through the glass surrounding the sound booth in awe. AJ is really an outrageously awesome singer and somehow in the midst of all the commotion and drama that is the making of pop music, Chris forgot that.
AJ’s vocals, coupled with the ever expanding bald spot atop his head, that Chris just wishes he could rub, and his slightly rounding cheeks are the stuff of Chris’s most secret fantasies. So, he plops down next to JC, offers him the pink-lidded espresso and blushes. JC shoots him a quick, sidelong glance and his lips quirk into a small grin.
“It took you long enough,” JC says and Chris humphs and fiddles with the sound system because JC has a thing for bass, a really bad thing for bass, because ballads like the one that AJ is singing really don’t require much bass. It’s not as if JC necessarily knew that Chris was coming to the studio, except for the fact that he’s known Chris for the last fifteen years and in knowing Chris had somehow managed to weasel the knowledge of Chris’s secret crush out of him back in the Germany days. Since he had mentioned to Chris that he would be in the studio with AJ, it stood to reason that there was a small chance that Chris might show up. Not that JC had to be so smug about it.
Chris looked up and caught AJ smiling and waving at him. Chris smiled and waved back, then lifted one of the espressos and tilted it invitingly so that AJ would know that there really was a perfectly valid reason for him to step out of the sound booth and sit down next to Chris.
JC’s cell phone rang and he dug it out of his pocket and peered down at the caller display. JC, as a general rule, did not pick up his phone. Unless, of course, it was Justin. Apparently, it was because JC flipped the phone open and pressed it to his ear.
“Hey, baby,” JC says warmly and Chris rolls his eyes and sips his own espresso.
“I know, but when are you gonna be here?” JC is asking, whining really…and that is okay because Justin goes for that sort of thing. It stood to reason that he should since JC put up with all of Justin’s shit. Such as his two week stints overseas with whatever starlet he happens to be “dating” at the moment and the absolute, express rule that he and JC only be seen together in public on rare, red carpetish occasions.
Still, JC and Justin’s relationship is, by far, the longest standing gay relationship that Chris has ever born witness to and, yes, he might be a tiny bit, slightly jealous of it. So, he sniffs and turns his head and AJ is coming out of the sound booth and approaching them. Chris holds out the espresso and forces himself to breath steadily through his nose when AJ sits down on the stool beside him.
