Being a Nobody isn’t anything to be proud of, you aren’t just a copy or a clone, and you’re on an even lower rung in the ladder of life. Though it isn’t the bottommost rung unless you’re one of the grey creatures who couldn’t even be considered human, they are truly the ones who live a tortured life. Some people get a Nobody such as Namine, where she still resembles her human form, and yet most just turn into monsters that will end up being destroyed.

Which would any normal person prefer? To be like Namine, of course, but not Ritsuka… he was blessed with that curse and still shows no gratitude of it. That kind of existence is a double-edged sword, but he hates it no matter who looks at it. Whether it be Namine constantly reminding him he is somewhat blessed for what he is, or Demyx who loves to mention he’s cursed to a lifetime of misery.

Even now as another sun sets, and the night intrudes upon the world like an unwanted plague, Namine remains directly across from Ritsuka. The teenager wanted an evening of tranquility, where he could be left to rot in his guilt and silent despair, but she would never allow him to have such a thing. She was indeed an odd one, people would just call her more humane than any other Nobody, yet it was an untrue fact. The girl could have her wrath like any person condemned to their lifestyle would, and she was never afraid to show it when she first became a Nobody. At first she was actually known for her uncontrollable rage, but she never got violent and eventually she calmed into what she is today.

Her piercing aquamarine eyes continue to patiently bore into Ritsuka’s closed eyes. There was an impatient chiming of the clock as it signaled midnight’s reign over the city, and she got up to leave just as she always did at that time. She did have other things on her agenda than just pitying Ritsuka after all, but he knew the excruciating torture it would be to wait for her again. Whether he’d admit it or not, Ritsuka desired her presence.

Not her body, not her love, not anything from her… Just for her to be there waiting was enough to make him the tiniest bit happy. And Namine knew it too, so that’s why Ritsuka also hated that presence.

Protective and wanting to reach out, it nagged his anguished mind that she wanted to pull him away from the comforts of insanity. It was so easy to just allow the pain to wash over him and engulf him in depression, but whenever she would come it would all go away. Even the first time they met, when she first spoke…

You can’t just stand in one spot, and then expect to go somewhere.

He didn’t understand what she meant the first time, but now it was so clear. Yet she didn’t empathize with what he was feeling and didn’t seem to grasp the concept of just letting go of her foolish hopes. She hoped for a different world, where there would no longer be the existence of a Nobody. Namine wished not to exist, but she was more clever about making it seem like a noble cause when she clearly felt the same way Ritsuka did.

This was probably the result of her meeting her real self, Ritsuka couldn’t remember her name, but their resemblance was too similar to be coincidence. After that she had kept trying to discover who Ritsuka’s person was, but there was no hope for him.

He hadn’t realized it was already morning, and he got up to walk outside to where he expected moonlight. Instead he got the sun blinding him, Ritsuka stepped back into the shadows where he knew he belonged. He heard Demyx coming way before Ritsuka saw him, and so the teenager did his best to blend in with the darkness surrounding him.

The member of Organization XIII passed right by without even glancing in Ritsuka’s direction, indicating he no longer had any interest in the unimportant Nobody. It had been Demyx’s pleasure to torment Ritsuka the past couple of years, but it had never gone beyond mental and emotional abuse. It had probably been Namine’s influence that made sure there was no physical torture, but she hadn’t saved him from Demyx completely. The man had once been unrelenting, and now… he didn’t even give Ritsuka a single look anymore.

He supposed he would have to thank her later.

That is if there was a later, because from what Ritsuka had heard Namine was being taken away by Xemnas. Whenever a Nobody was taken by that man, they didn’t usually come back. Whether they were sent off to do some meaningless evil, or if he had greater plans for them those poor creatures never came back.

Ritsuka knew he was sending Saïx or Zexion, but they wouldn’t come until the hours of twilight were near. Which meant the last chance he would get to speak to Namine was probably now, but he knew she would be in the manor… out in the light which Ritsuka hated. Yet he knew how to get there without needing to enter the light, but he knew it would be no use.

Yet Namine almost seemed to sense his desire to see her, and was already there as she always was.

“You want to say goodbye?”

He nodded, this was the first time he actually wanted to speak. It had been a couple of years since he had spoken though, and so he couldn’t think of how to say what he needed to.

“I know what you wish to say, and why you can’t say it.” Namine smiled at him and began walking away, but stopped to glance over her shoulder and whisper something.

At first he couldn’t believe she had said it, and thought it his imagination playing tricks on him. But knowing it was the pitiful truth, Ritsuka caved and allowed his mind to accept what she said.

Move on.
